BAMBOO

Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on Earth

BAMBOO is environmentally friendly and a truly renewable resource.

Bamboo

Bamboo is classified as a grass not a tree. It is the fastest growing plant on earth. A grove of bamboo restores itself each spring by sending up new shoots that grow to their full height and development very quickly. A hectare of bamboo forest reduces the effect of greenhouse gasses by about 12 tonnes annually. This is true for all species of the plant, including the giant timber bamboos harvested for flooring that grow over 100 ft. tall. This bamboo has a growth rate measured at over 4 ft. in one day! You can actually see it growing, like the minute hand of a very large clock.

Surdel Flooring and Design Centre has a wide selection of Bamboo Flooring including The New Bamboo Fusion from DANSK Hardwood.

Strand Woven Bamboo - Superior Performance in an Environmentally Sustainable Flooring Alternative

Bamboo Fusion is strand woven bamboo flooring, derived directly from the pole of the Moso bamboo plant, which grows wild in the mountainous regions of China. Bamboo is technically a grass and is one of the strongest materials in the world. It has a tensile strength superior to cold rolled steel and a compressive strength higher than concrete.

The patented stranding process used to create this product compresses and encapsulates the cell structure of the bamboo creating an extremely dense, durable and stable floor; a floor that will outperform and outlast traditional old growth hardwoods like oak, maple and cherry.

Bamboo is recognized as an environmentally friendly, sustainable and renewable resource. The pole of the plant grows to full maturity in 5 years and if not harvested dies and a new pole regenerates from the rhizome of the plant. One culm can produce up to 200 poles in its life cycle.

There is virtually no waste or pollution in the harvesting and production of strand bamboo. Block factories are strategically located near the plantations and forests where Moso bamboo grows. Virtually 100% of the pole is utilized in the manufacturing process, and the limited waste product is used by other industries or to generate the power that operates the factories.

Superior performance combined with exceptional environmental sustainability, creates Bamboo Fusion as a uniquely smart and responsible flooring choice for both residential and commercial installations.
