The core's job is to maintain waterproof abilities. The typical LVF core is the completely waterproof vinyl composite. If you want an even higher protection level, consider choosing SPC (stone plastic composite) or WPC (wood plastic composite). These cores will not peel or ripple no matter how much or for how long it is exposed to water. While both have the same waterproof capabilities, SPC is more rigid, while WPC has a more flexible feeling, so it comes down to your personal preference.
Other benefits include durability. The vinyl should be at least 8-mm thick, but you might go higher if you want an authentic hardwood feeling. The wear layer, a top clear melamine sheet, is responsible for durability, protecting the floor from scratches and scuffs. That measurement should be at least 20-mils thick. As for maintenance, all it needs is a daily sweeping and periodic mopping.
